A little about me

For most people, keeping up with everyday demands of work, family or study can be challenging as it requires a lot of motivation and energy. If you are often struggling with fatigue or anxiety, weight issues, poor sleep, hormone imbalances, digestive issues and just getting through the day, it is likely you are not living life to the fullest. As a degree qualified Naturopath and Metabolic Balance Practitioner® Melisa can help guide you towards optimal health by first doing an assessment of your health which is then followed up with diet and lifestyle recommendations (and sometimes nutritional and herbal medicine prescriptions) that are safe, efficacious and evidenced based. During the years that Melisa has been in clinical practice, she has enjoyed helping many people transform their health and wellbeing.

With over 10 years experience in clinical practice, Melisa has enjoyed helping many people transform their health and well being.

FREE: ebookA Guide to Perimenopause

There is no shortage of menopause advice online right now... and so much of it sounds convincing. From miracle supplements to one-size-fits-all wellness hacks, it can be hard to know what's actually helpful and what's simply having a moment. When I look at any trend, what I'm really weighing up is whether the evidence supports it, whether it suits the individual woman sitting in front of me, and whether it's something she can sustain well beyond the next few weeks. So I've pulled together five of the trends I'm not currently endorsing, and the reasoning behind each one. A couple might surprise you... particularly the one about walking, which I rarely see questioned. (Swipe through to see all five.)None of this is about being contrary for the sake of it. It's that no two women experience menopause the same way, and what works beautifully for one can be wrong for another. The real answer is so rarely found in whatever's trending, and so often found in what's right for you specifically.I'd love to know... which of these trends have you been seeing everywhere lately? Tell me in the comments. 👇.

Here’s a throwback to 2018, when at the Whole Life Expo, I was invited to present for the Coeliac Society on the Gut brain axis.Public interest on the importance of gut health was starting to increase then, not just for individuals diagnosed with coeliac disease or IBS.Fortunately, I made sure my presentation was informative for anyone who was interested in learning how our microbiome plays a role in mood, immune health and overall health and how they can improve their microbiome.Since then, more clients have better health literacy on the gut, however having a general knowledge may not be enough to address the root cause, especially if you are trying to improve your gut health with gut powders and probiotics without discerning nutrient doses and strains of probiotics and if they are right for you.If you are seeking guidance with your gut or general health (which often can be due to dysbiosis and an imbalances in the microbiome) please reach out. Don’t be like some of my clients who have spent $$$ and time trying to navigate their gut health on their own..

We are all part of something greater ✨✨Although it isn’t always apparent in the present moment what the ripple effect our actions or spoken words will have on the people we are with. However, I have a strong belief that our purpose is to make a difference to the lives of those around us
- for the better ❤️Once we know our purpose, it’s up to us to share this with the world. It requires us to have courage and a certain level of boldness to speak our truth. This can be hard for some women, especially those women who consider themselves an introvert or fear judgement. And if as a child you you heard the phrase “ you are to be seen and not heard “ that persisted past childhood (I see you Gen Xers). This brings me to this event I attended over a week ago with my close friend @celesteboesman hosted by the vibrant @heidiwolffstudio the #Bold&Visible dinner 🎊🎊This spectacular event was an opportunity for female founders to connect and celebrate
the difference we are each making in our professional and personal lives daily. It was a fun evening, and I enjoyed the shared conversations I had on the night with @aprildawnhobbs and other inspiring women.Thankyou @heidiwolffstudio for creating this event for female founders to be seen and celebrated.#femalefoundersaustralia #menopausenaturally #Bold&Visible
There's a belief I come across so often in midlife women... that they've somehow left it too late. That whatever good health they have left is on its way out, and the best they can hope for now is to slow the decline. It's such a heavy thing to carry and it simply isn't true.Let me explain what's actually happening, because I think it helps to understand the why.As oestrogen falls through perimenopause, a few things shift at once. Oestrogen helps your muscles take up glucose from your blood, so as it declines, that glucose isn't drawn in as readily and your blood sugar can start to creep up.At the same time, muscle itself becomes a little harder to hold onto, and since muscle is the most metabolically active tissue you have, losing it quietly slows your metabolism. This is also why your protein needs genuinely rise now, your body becomes less efficient at using it to maintain muscle than it once was.Your bones follow a similar pattern. For most of perimenopause they barely change, then there's a relatively short stretch around your final period where loss speeds up, before it settles again. Here's the part that matters, though. None of this is fixed. Insulin sensitivity, muscle, bone, they all still respond to how you eat, move and support yourself, and that responsiveness is exactly why this stage is such an important window rather than a closing door.So I've never thought of midlife as the beginning of the end. To me it's the quiet groundwork for how well a woman will be living in her later years... whether she's still out walking, still sharp, still independent and doing the things she loves. That matters to me far more than what the scales happen to say in any given week.If any of this sounds like you, send me a message. I'd love to help you make the most of these years. 🌿.
